Why we’re different

Recently joined the Ultimate Martial Arts Academy. I look forward to it every week. The Instructor gives the same amount of time to all students. Everyone’s improving quickly. Met new friends and getting fit. (I've lost about 4 pounds). The classes stimulate both mind and body and you can have a laugh as well.

We are proud to be affiliated to large Martial Arts Associations including

WAKO - World Association of kickboxing Organisations

AMA - Amateur Martial Association

Napma - National Association of Professional Martial Artists

Nest Management - National Education System for Training

Our instructors

Mitch Ram, a qualified Black Belt 4th Dan Instructor, leads our team of highly trained instructors and has over 15 years martial arts experience. Mitch is also a fully qualified First Aider and, like all our instructors, is police checked and CRB Certified so you can rest assured your Little Ninjas are in the safest of hands.

Mitch and our instructors have designed programmes that will not only improve your children’s fitness but also help them improve and step ahead in school.

Birthday parties with a difference

"Thank you to Sensei and the staff for putting on a great 'Martial Arts party'. It's such a cool alternative to the usual birthday party. My Son Steven will always remember his 6th birthday because of it.

I'm not sure who enjoyed the party more -- the parents or the children. There were 20 kids at the party"

Martial Arts will open the door to an exciting world of high quality virtues and a never-ending circle of learning and self-discovery.

Studying Martial Arts at Ultimate Martial Arts Academy benefits everyone. We put strong emphasis on the strengths of our students while understanding each individual learns at their own pace and we make concessions accordingly.

Our curriculum is designed to help your body to react in an effective and controlled manner against armed and unarmed assailants should the need arise.

The classes are a great way to get into shape or continue your personal fitness. They will help improve your stamina, strength and flexibility while increasing your confidence, concentration and intuition.

Training alongside other adults can even increase your circle of friends by training and achieving together.

Whether you're new to Martial Arts or wish to continue with us, our training encourages high personal ideals, confidence and respect, coupled with a thorough physical agenda. Our aim is to help our students be more successful in all aspects of life.

Martial arts is good, clean fun for children and a great way to give them a head start in life. It’s widely recognised that children can benefit in a number of ways from martial arts training from an early age, with training supporting the key lessons and values you teach at home.

Keeping children interested in their martial arts training requires an element of fun and games. The Ultimate Martial Arts Academy incorporates fun games involving proper techniques which add to the value of training and keep children interested and enthusiastic.

Students work to a defined curriculum and grade structure. Lesson objectives include the development of confidence, fitness, self-discipline, self-defence and awareness as well as providing a place for the children to interact and develop social skills in a safe environment. Class numbers are kept low in order to give more focussed tuition and allow children to get the best from the programme.

We aim to help your child:

have the confidence to achieve in the classroom

to never settle for second best

have more respect for their teachers - and parents

have the discipline to do their homework

be able to deal confidently with bullying or difficult situations

be alert, aware and trained in self-defence

take pride in themselves and their surroundings

We have worked with children and youths with various challenges such as bullying, weight issues, low self-esteem, lack of coordination or focus and children that feel they just don't fit in anywhere.

We take pride in the leaps and bounds children have made since joining our programmes - from the troubled youth who starts to gain an identity and finds self-respect, to the child with low self-esteem whose parents watch proudly as their child stands tall and executes techniques in front of a full class of people.

Your child is important to us and we want them to be the best they can be; in the gym, at home and in life!

Little Ninjas - the fun and educational way to learn martial arts for 4-7 year olds

My son Travis Baldwin is 7 and has been attending the Little Ninja class since June 2007 and he loves it, his school reports have even mentioned the change in him since attending Sensei Mitch’s classes. I would recommend the Ultimate Martial Arts Academy to anyone young or old.

The Little Ninja Martial Arts Program is specially designed for ages 4-7 with fun, high energy classes. We believe the time between the ages of 4 and 7 are the most important years in a child’s development.

All our classes are designed to enhance positive development in a fun and motivating way. These skills will help them enter society with a more confident and enthusiastic outlook. They will become better students at school, better listeners at home and more ambitious towards the future.

The Little Ninjas program will also prepare your child for our Children's Martial Arts Program. They will learn how to work with others and follow directions from their instructors. Our Little Ninja instructors are trained specifically to work with preschool aged children.

Every child is gifted in some way, just as every child will be challenged in some way. Some children are afraid to handle struggles or challenges, and will only want to do things they are certain they will be able to do well.

Our job is to encourage children to meet and succeed in all of life’s challenges.

" Little Ninjas today - Leaders tomorrow"

Martial arts or fighting arts are systems of codified practices and traditions of training for combat. Martial arts all have a very similar objective: defend oneself or others from physical threat. In addition, some martial arts are linked to beliefs such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism or Shinto while others follow a particular code of honor. Martial arts are considered as both an art and a science. Many arts are also practiced competitively, most commonly as combat sports, but may also take the form of dance.

The term martial arts refers to the art of warfare (derived from Mars, the Roman god of war) and comes from a 15th-century European term for fighting arts now known as historical European martial arts. A practitioner of martial arts is referred to as a martial artist.

In popular culture, the term martial arts often specifically refers to Asian fighting styles, especially the combat systems that originated in East Asia. However, the term actually refers to any codified combat system, regardless of origin. Europe is home to many extensive systems of martial arts, both living traditions (e.g. Jogo do Pau and other stick and sword fencing and Savate, a French kicking style developed by sailors and street fighters) and older systems of historical European martial arts that have existed through the present, many of which are now being reconstructed. In the Americas, Native Americans have traditions of open-handed martial arts including wrestling, and Hawaiians have historically practiced arts featuring small- and large-joint manipulation. A mix of origins is found in the athletic movements of Capoeira, which African slaves developed in Brazil based on skills they had brought from Africa.

While each style has unique facets that make it different from other martial arts, a common characteristic is the systematization of fighting techniques. Methods of training vary and may include sparring (simulated combat) or formal sets or routines of techniques known as forms or kata. Forms are especially common in the Asian and Asian-derived martial arts.

Light- and medium-contact

These types of sparring restrict the amount of force that may be used to hit an opponent, in the case of light sparring this is usual to 'touch' contact, e.g. a punch should be 'pulled' as soon as or before contact is made. In medium-contact (sometimes referred to as semi-contact) the punch would not be 'pulled' but not hit with full force. As the amount of force used is restricted, the aim of these types of sparring is not to knock out an opponent; a point system is used in competitions.
